Our Volunteers are a Treasure from the Lord
A volunteer appreciation lunch was held on April 23rd,
2009 at the Life Enrichment Center. After a lunch, prepared and served by the
volunteer staff and Chef Bob Ransom, all the volunteers present gathered in the
Lodge. Everyone was thanked for their service and commitment to the mission and
services of the LEC by Volunteer Coordinator, Diane Hoxie and Jeff Sorrell,
Executive Director. It takes about 65 volunteers each day for the operations
of the LEC to run smoothly and serve our clients well. Volunteers serve in a
wide variety of areas ranging from teaching classes, preparing and serving
meals, grocery distribution, client registration, facility maintenance and
administrative areas.
Special recognition was given
to Everett Miller as the 2009 Volunteer of the Year. Everett volunteers in the
food distribution area by faithfully packing and distributing bags of
groceries. He has been volunteering at the LEC for over 6 and 1/2 years and
recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. Previously Everett volunteered at Miami
Valley Hospital for 24 years and had a successful career teaching for Dayton
Public Schools for 31 years. He worked summers at NCR’s Old River Park for 42
seasons and was married to his beloved wife Dorothy for 67 years. Everett
attends Higher Ground Church and enjoys fishing and gardening. He received a
plaque, a gift certificate and great applause from his fellow volunteers at the
luncheon. Everett will be greatly missed when he moves at the end of the summer
to live with his son in Indianapolis.
