Springing into Good Health!
The Spring 2009 Health Fair, “Springing into Good Health” took place. Thursday, April 30th at the Life Enrichment Center. Health agencies and advocates from around the Miami Valley gathered to offer screenings, education and access to health services to 145 men and women ranging in age from 17 to 89. Clients were encouraged to visit as many tables and rooms as possible.
Premier Community Health, Heart Works and Dayton Public Health provided:
- Vision Screening
- Derma Scan
- Cholesterol Screening
- Blood Pressure Measurement
- Blood Sugar Testing
- Access to mammograms for those eligible
- Information on Women & Heart Disease
- and more!
Nursing Students from Wright State University presented educational sessions on:
- Affordable Health Care Options
- Smoking / Second Hand Smoke and how it affects future health
- Diabetes Education
The National Kidney Foundation representative was present to sign people up for the Annual Kidney Screening, which will take place August 20, 2009 at the Life Enrichment Center.
The morning began with breakfast and concluded with lunch provided by Chef Bob Ransom and LEC kitchen volunteers followed by the giving away of several donated door prizes. Everyone was appreciative of the efforts of the Health Fair organizer, Ellen Shelley, Manager of Education and Health Programs at the Life Enrichment Center. Her team of volunteers included Joanna Mount, Judy Stringer, Karen Alice, Diane Hoxie and Kim Belcastro as well as many more volunteer hands in set up and clean up.
The next Health Fair is scheduled for October 1st, 2009!
