Senior level nursing students from Cedarville University recently spent about 8 weeks at the Life Enrichment Center. They completed practical experiences for their course, Nursing 4000: Care of Populations. The students observed and participated in several areas at the LEC in order to get an overall picture of the center’s functions and to better understand the clients we serve. They chose the fitness center as an area of primary focus. Each week the students made an impact as they built relationships with clients and discovered practical ways to optimize the facility. Thanks to these students, the fitness rewards program and registration processes have been revised. Informational posters in the area were updated and simple repairs were made to several pieces of equipment so that they could be returned to service.

The students completed the assignment as they presented a posted project to their fellow Junior and Senior nursing students in December. Ellen Shelley, Education Coordinator at the LEC, was able to attend the presentation at Cedarville University and came away very impressed! We look forward to the fall semester of 2012, when the class is offered again, so that this new mutually beneficial relationship can continue to grow.
