Bike Shoppe Progress Continues

Saturday, January 8, 2011 was a productive day in the LEC Bike Shoppe. Seven Boy Scouts and three adult leaders from Troop 71 out of Aley UMC in Beavercreek spent seven hours assembling 40 new bicycles of various sizes as part of an Eagle Scout Project. The boys worked in teams to accomplish this impressive task, and they plan to return for another Saturday session. Some of the boys were putting together bikes for the first time and enjoyed taking the completed projects for a test ride in the parking lot. The bicycles will be used in the various programs slated to begin in the spring. Thank you Boy Scouts for doing a good turn!

A dedicated group of seven volunteers from First Christian Church of Huber Heights also worked in the Bike Shoppe on Saturday. They completed insulating and hanging corrugated metal on the back wall. This milestone will now allow wall-length racking to be completely installed. The mulit-level racking system will provide much needed storage and organization for hundreds of bicycles. The group also made progress on dry walling several individual work station areas. Many children will soon benefit from the countless hours and love given in preparation of this facility.
